Terrestrial Laser Scanning: An Operational Tool for Fuel Hazard Mapping?

نویسندگان

چکیده

Fuel hazard estimates are vital for the prediction of fire behaviour and planning fuel treatment activities. Previous literature has highlighted potential Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS) to be used assess properties. However, operational uptake these systems been limited due a lack sampling approach that balances efficiency data efficacy. This study aims whether an utilising capture information over area commensurate with current assessment protocols implemented in South-Eastern Australia is feasible. TLS were captured various plots Australia, both low- high-cost sensors. Results indicate scanners provided similar overall representation ground, vertical distribution vegetation estimates. The analysis contained within individual scans clipped 4 m showed results fully co-registered plot (cover near-surface 10%, elevated 15%, height strata 0.05 cm). recommends that, environment (balancing completeness), sufficient number non-overlapping can provide reliable at strata, without need co-registration case environments. use rigid structure by observation provides incremental benefit measurement hazard. Future research should leverage full capability combine it moisture gain realisation

Terrestrial Laser Scanning for Deformation Monitoring

Small scale deformation monitoring using terrestrial laser scanning is gaining considerable attention mainly due to the high spatial resolution of the acquired data. The notion of this paper is to discuss the issues influencing the feasibility of laser scanning for deformation monitoring. Prior to any data collection it is critical to evaluate the scanner’s performance within a calibration sche...

Application of Terrestrial Laser Scanning for Shipbuilding

Recently, a laser scanner technology has been receiving more attention. Nowadays use of terrestrial laser scanners (TLS) is continuously increasing. This technique offers the possibility of measuring millions of points within short period of time. Thus, it is possible to record complete 3D objects efficiently. In this communication the process followed to model the hull and the deck of the ship...

Terrestrial Laser Scanning for Vegetation Sampling

We developed new vegetation indices utilizing terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) to quantify the three-dimensional spatial configuration of plant communities. These indices leverage the novelty of TLS data and rely on the spatially biased arrangement of a TLS point cloud. We calculated these indices from TLS data acquired within an existing long term manipulation of forest structure in Central Or...

Terrestrial laser scanning to estimate plot-level forest canopy fuel properties

This paper evaluates the potential of a terrestrial laser scanner (TLS) to characterize forest canopy fuel characteristics at plot level. Several canopy properties, namely canopy height, canopy cover, canopy base height and fuel strata gapwere estimated. Different approaches were tested to avoid the effect of canopy shadowing on canopy height estimation caused by deployment of the TLS below the...
